During January to March 2015, CARTAC conducted eight workshops on external sector statistics in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU), with one in each of the eight member territories.
These workshops were conducted in collaboration with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and provided training on new survey instruments developed by CARTAC and the ECCB to over 450 participants from the public and the private sectors. These forms are being used to conduct the 2014 balance of payments surveys in the first half of 2015.
The workshops also provided training on the conceptual framework of the Balance of Payments (BoP) and International Investment Position (IIP) and emphasized the importance of producing these accounts. The components of the survey forms were also explained and clarified as necessary, with participants reporting that the training/sensitization session was very useful and that they are now better equipped to provide the information requested.
In addition to producing BoP and international investment statistics according to the latest international guidelines, this exercise will also facilitate the production of the first IIP accounts for each of the eight member territory and the currency union.
